A nice summer day calls for a nice summer drink: The Mojito! Mojitos are made from a combination of rum, mint, lime and sugar cane and are wickedly delicious. Mojitos are a perfect outdoor drink, whether you’re having a pool party or sitting at a poolside cafe in Las Vegas or LA (my favorite places to drink mojitos!). Not all bars sell mojitos, however – boo – and if you’re at a nightclub, don’t always expect to find sugarcane in your drink. Sidenote: I do have to admit, Vegas hotels make some of the best mojitos I’ve ever had. The next time you’re in Las Vegas, try a mojito at the poolside cafe at The Wynn or at their outdoor lounge area, Parasol Downs. Ra Sushi has a fantastic tasting Green Tea Mojito and The Burger Bar at The Wynn has a tasty Raspberry Mojito. Not in Vegas? Chains like Bahama Breeze and TGI Fridays also make mojitos, both regular and flavored.
Mojito Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons cane sugar, plus more to rim glass
- 4 cups ice
- 6 ounces light rum
- 10 to 12 mint sprigs
- 6 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- Club soda
- 4 slices lime
Mojito Recipe
Moisten the rims of 4 glasses with lime and dip into cane sugar then set aside. Place ice in beverage shaker then add in the rum. Break up half of the mint leaves and add to the shaker with the lime juice and sugar. Shake well and serve over ice in a funky glass. Top off each glass with a splash of club soda. Garnish glass with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint.
