One of my favorite singers is Billy Joel. I’ve seen him in concert, gone to his musicals (Moving Out!), purchased all of his CD’s. I just love his music. I blast Only the Good Die Young and A Matter of Trust on a regular basis from my computer.
What does Billy Joel have to do with Girly Drinks, you ask? Well, Billy Joel is married to the beautiful Katie Lee Joel. Katie is a foodie – she was the host of Top Chef for the first season and is a frequent blogger and writer for food columns in magazines like The Huffington Post and Cosmopolitan. Katie recently came out with a cook book, The Comfort Table. I’m a vegetarian, so I like the fact that she used to be a vegetarian and offers up many veg recipes, or recipes that can easily be turned vegetarian. More so than that, however, she offers up great cocktail recipes!
Here are three of our favorite chic cocktail recipes from Katie Lee Joel’s The Comfort Table:
Kir Royale:
Katie takes this recipe from one of HER favorite places to drink cocktails, the George V. hotel in Paris (sounds great to me!)
Kir Royale Ingredients:
- Crème de Cassis
- Chilled Champagne
Kir Royale Directions:
Pour ½ teaspoon cassis into each Champagne glass. Fill with Champagne and serve immediately.
Peach Fizz:
Peach Fizz Ingredients:
- 6 fresh peaches peeled and roughly chopped
- One 6 ounce can frozen lemonade concentrate
- ¼ cup gin
- ½ cup ice
- Fresh mint sprigs
Peach Fizz Directions:
Combine peaches, lemonade, gin, and ice in a blender. Make in batches. Blend until smooth. Pour into cocktail glasses and garnish with mint sprigs. Yields 4 servings
Ahmad’s Marga-Tini:
Marga-tini Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup white tequila
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 2 tablespoons Rose’s lime juice
- ¼ club soda or seltzer
- Lime Wedge
Marga-tini Directions:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, lime juice, and Rose’s lime juice. Shake until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain over ice in a cocktail glass and top with the club soda. Garnish with a lime wedge.
