Sapphire Gin: The Sapphire Collins

The folks over at Bombay Sapphire have created a fun recipe for the Summer, the Lavender Sapphire Collins. A twist on the Tom Collins (gin, lemon juice, sugar, club soda, maraschino cherry & orange), the Sapphire Collins is the chic modern version of the cocktail, integrating sweet simple syrup, muddled fruit, and the 10 botanicals of Bombay Sapphire. Created with the help of mixologists Albert Trummer and Jonathan Pogash, the Sapphire Collins is feminine, floral, and fabulous for summer

Lavender Sapphire Collins Recipe

• 1 ½ oz. BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® gin
• ¾ oz. fresh lemon juice
• ½ oz. lavender syrup
• 3 oz. club soda

Squeeze half a lemon into a Collins glass, add lavender syrup and BOMBAY SAPPHIRE. Stir and fill with ice. Top with club soda and garnish with a lemon wedge.

Ah, hotel cocktails. If I didn’t have to work, I would travel from hotel to hotel, sipping on speciality cocktails. But, alas, I do have to work, so instead, I write about these speciality hotel cocktails.

The folks over at the W Hotel in New York have quite a few speciality cocktails. The Heartbeat at W New York has graciously supplied Girly Drinks with 4 of their popular girly drink cocktail recipes, starting with two purple cocktails – sounds good!

Check out the W Hotels Girly Drink Cocktails:

Purple-Rita

• 1 oz. Purple TM
• 1 oz. Tequila
• 1 oz. Cointreau
• Fresh Lime Juice
• Simple Syrup

Shake in ice. Strain and serve in a martini glass with a rim coated with salt.

Mojo

• 1 oz. Purple TM
• 1 ½ oz. White Rum
• 3 ¾ oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
• 1 oz. Simple Syrup
• Mint Leaves
• Splash of club soda
• 1 Mint sprig for garnish

Muddle the mint leaves in a mixing glass with the lime and sugar syrup. Add the spirits and the Purple TM. Shake with ice. Strain into a 12 oz. rocks glass or highball glass and top with a splash of club soda. Garnish with the mint sprig.

Fizz

• Shot of gin
• Lemon Juice
• Tablespoon of powdered sugar
• Champagne

Shake first three ingredients over ice and strain into an ice filled highball glass. Top off the glasses with the champagne. For an extra kick, drop in a couple of frozen raspberries and serve.

Ocean Breeze

• Shot of coconut rum
• Pineapple Juice
• Splash of Simple Syrup
• Splash of Blue Curacao
• Garnish with Blackberry and Slice of Orange

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into an ice filled highball glass. Garnish with a slice of orange and blackberry.

With the 2008 Beijing Olympics nearly upon us (08.08.08), what better way to kick off the opening ceremonies or toast your favorite winning athlete than with a cocktail that honors the home of this year’s Olympic Games, Beijing.

Master mixologist, Dalio Calado, has teamed up with Bulldog Gin to create a delicious, Chinese-inspired cocktail that is sure to quench even an Olympian’s thirst. Bulldog Gin’s botanicals (Dragon Eye, citrus, natural poppy) pair perfectly with lychee as Dragon Eye is a cousin of the sweet fruit and also an ancient Chinese aphrodisiac said to enhance sexual stamina and promote skin vitality.

Lychees & Flowers Cocktail Ingredients:

• 3 fresh peeled Lychees
  
• 1.5 oz Bulldog Gin
  
• 1.5 oz St Germain
  

Lychees & Flowers Cocktail Directions:

Mix all of the ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously. Serve in a chilled martini glass and garnish with a fresh Lychee.
